Star Trails - east

Another one, only about 15 minutes or so.

Week 12, Samuel Adams Imperial White

Filled a tulip glass with one smooth slow pour. Off white head about two fingers that died quite quickly. It had a hazy copper/brown or amber color with some lace on the sides.

Smelll of light soap and biscuit aromas, yeasty.
It had a sweet malty taste that finished with a nice alcohol bite.

The mouthfeel was all about the alcohol, some bitter bite at the end. Sense this is a high gravity it's a once an evening brew, good carbonation and a light feel on the tongue.

BOTM, Pint night

I love the way this came out.

Just some lighting experiments I did, strobe at 45 down above camera and then strobe at white background with a small 8/5 x 11 black sheet of paper just behind the glass so the light peeks around the sides to light the glass on it's sides.

More Star Trails

While sitting out in the front yard, messing with drift alignment of the telescope mount I set the camera up for this photo. It's a merge of over 130ish photos or more than 2 hours of 1 minute shots.

The dew wasn't helping matters and as you can tell from the lower right of the photo the light from next door wasn't either. I'm looking forward to some time at DAV but know I will not be there before the end of the year, after Thanksgiving more than likely.

Mountain Moonshine Fest, Dawsonville, GA

Got to see some great artists, mostly music ones. A gal named Julie Gribble a very CUTE looking brunette, sexy as hell. Maybe a bit country for me but I'll make an exception. :)

The friends of mine were at a stage next to an old Gulf Station that had turned into a City Liquor store. It was really rustic looking with old garage doors and everything including this gas pump.

I have been lost and hope to be found soon.

I have been really lazy the last several weeks and hope to re-start posting every weekday again. Maybe by next week?

Trees at work, sunrise

Need to take time to shoot more.

Stonewall Falls trip, sunrise

I don't stop as often as I should when I see stuff like this.

Yellow

Big bee fly bug thing that is mosly yellow.

This fellow was on the handrail at the Greenway bridge at work. He just walked around on it as I took pictures.

Richness in a Glass

Messed around with lighting and a Smuttynose Porter one evening.

strobist info: 500w/s bounced off of white background with black sheet of construction paper behind the glass and in front of background so light peeks around the sides and top of the black paper.

Noticed that I had posted this before, opps!

Macro two bugs on a leaf

Interesting colors I think.

Amanda the beautiful

Black and White photography, not greyscale, is excellent for the texture of skin.

Jaime and Kirstin

Fun shoot. With a couple of very cute ladies.

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Amanda b&w

This one was taken back in 2008. Here's to wishing I can have a shoot with her again sometime soon.

I'd like to get back into some glamour shoots.

Atlanta Aquarium

Took this over two years ago, man has it been that long? Time to get out and do more.

Out on a limb

Just setting up the camera for macro shots can be a chore at times. Funny how sometimes you just catch something at just the right time.

Friday, September 18, 2009

St. Louis, MO

Sometimes, man can create some marvelous things. This was contructed some time ago and although looks a bit aged inside it still has a timeless beauty and a look of the future you'd expect from something made of stainless steel. This sucker is big!

Spider in a web

Sometimes I feel like this spider.

Disney back in 2004

Thought this was a cool photo. Haven't been to the Disney complex for a long time now. More than likely over 5 years.

Will need to get back to EPCOT soon, really enjoy it much more than the Magic Kingdom.

Fly

Up close and personal, I like this shot but it's a bit difficult to get them to stay still long enough to get a shot of them.

Monday, September 14, 2009

Lady

Climbing to the top, I haven't seen many ladybugs or ladybirds this season. It's beginning to get cold and I'm not sure if I will.

I really do like these little guys, need to get out there and take more macros.

west by north west

I really like making these star trails and very soon want to go somewhere other than my back yard to expose them. I'm thinking about going to the PSSG this year with the brother, it's a whole week of star gazing stuff in October. I'm just not sure about taking off a whole week to do this.

Up close

After trying to get some good shots last week this little guy landed on a bush close by just as I was loading my stuff back intot the trunk. Had to pull everything back out set up the tripod and even though he took off several times he came right back.

Piggy back

Not sure what is really going on here. :)

Just off the docks.

On Top of the World

Ladybug, taken in my side yard on a Gardenia bush.

Spider

This guy was just hanging around outside at work.

Thursday, September 3, 2009

Caterpillar

Monarch caterpillar, I think this one was taken at my parent's house, not really sure though. I need to modify my backyard to be more butterfly friendly.

Showing off

At my parents house, this lizard is showing off to try to get a mate. Funny how we do the same thing.

Tuesday, September 1, 2009

Bug

Still going through some older shots here is some sort of bug on a cherry tomato I was growing last year.

Monday, August 31, 2009

Little Guy

Here is a small red Mushroom, I think when I took this I didn't realize at first that there was a slug there. Made the photo that much more interesting.

Friday, August 28, 2009

Bokeh

A very common butterfly in the south eastern US a Soldier - Danaus. It's very common in my mother's backyard.

Thursday, August 27, 2009

Stalking

Spider in air, actually he was on his web but you can't really see it. I generally do a lot of insect/flower/nature photography, generally I think that they don't complain about getting their photo taken and I don't feel funny about taking it. I may have a phobia.

Wednesday, August 26, 2009

Mantis

I've only photographed a preying mantis twice as far as I can remember. The nicest thing about them is that the stay relatively still and do not spook easily.

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

Ladybug

Sometimes you see these little critters all over and at other times not at all. Maybe it's the season maybe not. The next several weeks I'm digging back in time and showing photos from the past.

12mm, toward the north

Another star trail photo, I had hoped to do another one on Sunday but the weather didn't cooperate with me.

Friday, August 21, 2009

Another of a caterpillar egg

Took this over at the entrance of the Greenway at work in Alpharetta. There is this patch of Passion Vine that usually has plenty of caterpillars on it munching away but so far this year nothing. This is also the only time I've seen eggs on these plants.

I've looked the last several days and the egg is still there, maybe this morning will find something more.

Smuttynose, Robust Porter

strobist info: 500w/s bounced off of white background with black sheet of construction paper behind the glass and in front of background so light peeks around the sides and top of the black paper.

Kate II

Lighting was a little harsh here.

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

Cherry in a Martini glass

Messed with these photos for an hour or so, dropping the cherry and trying to snap the shutter when it hit the water.

Monday, August 17, 2009

Kate

We have been discussing another shoot for a calendar for her honey. Not sure if anything will come out of it, but I hope so!

More Fireworks from the 4th

More from the 4th, I would like to take more nightime shots of buildings and of the skyline here in Atlanta. One of the problems is the best places to take those kind of photos are a bit scary. The only one that may not be so scary is from a art school parking lot where they don't let you take shots without sneeking about unless you are a student. I have gone there and scouted about during the daytime without incident and have asked at the security desk only to be told I'd have to ask permission from someone that is there only from 9-5.
